Two Myths About Wedding Marquees

Posted on

Here are the top two myths about wedding marquees that far too many engaged couples believe.

They're unsuitable for winter weddings

Couples who decide to have winter weddings will often dismiss any suggestion of hosting their nuptials in wedding marquees because they think that these structures are unsuitable for cold-weather occasions. In reality, whilst marquees do not come with in-built heating systems, those who rent them for their wedding can do many things to ensure their guests stay warm whilst they're inside them.

In addition to using portable fan heaters that can warm up cold spots in a marquee (such as the interior area that's right next to the entrance), couples can also hire specialist marquee heaters. This type of heater is usually placed outside the marquee and the heat from it is transferred inside the tent via a vent, similar to the vent on a tumble dryer. This introduces hot air into the marquee's interior and the air then circulates through the tent and makes it warm. If a couple rents both of these heaters and uses a marquee with walls, they should find that it remains wonderfully toasty inside the tent, even if it snows during their celebrations.

They're not as safe as traditional wedding venues

Some engaged couples also believe that because marquees are portable, they're not quite as safe as traditional wedding venues. Because of this, they may have concerns about a marquee collapsing midway through their reception if one of its poles breaks or if it's struck by some strong wind. Given that most couples consider their wedding to be one of the most important days in their lives, they may be deterred from hiring this structure by the thought of their wedding being ruined by this type of disaster.

In reality, marquees are incredibly safe, and the likelihood of this worst-case scenario occurring is almost non-existent. The reason for this is as follows: nothing is left to chance during a marquee's construction, and every possible safety check is done to make sure it is properly erected. Marquees are put together by teams of highly-trained individuals, who will check each of the tent's components to ensure it's in good condition before using it and who will assess the entire structure's stability before they finish. Because the team goes through this process each and every time it puts together a marquee, it could even be argued that these tents are, in some respects, safer than standard wedding venue buildings, as every piece of the structure is examined each time it is used for an event.
